Fisheries Outreach Specialist

Responsibilities:   The incumbent is charged with development of appropriate documents as assigned by the Council, the Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director, or the Public Information Officer, including but not limited to, presentations, newsletter, other public information materials, and other documents.

 

The incumbent will assist the Council in providing a communication link between the Council and its constituents using a wide variety of mechanisms that insure the public is aware of and involved in Council actions and decisions. Incumbent must be able to interact with diverse interests on a Gulf-wide basis.  Incumbent must be able to understand and communicate complex technical information pertaining to fisheries management, and explain how fishermen are affected by Council actions.

 

Duties require travel of varied frequency, duration, and destination, chiefly in the Gulf of Mexico region.

 

Qualifications:  Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Biology or environmental science. In addition, the successful candidate will have a professional level of experience in a communication, education, or a related field or Master of Science/Arts degree in an appropriate field.   Must have the ability to write and edit material, conduct research, interview, organize, coordinate activities, and interact with the public, including public speaking. Computer skills, including word processing, content management and data management are also required.  Must be knowledgeable about, or possess the ability to learn, Council policies and procedures.  Incumbent should possess some knowledge of the Gulf of Mexico fisheries and the fishing industry. Spanish speaking and web development a plus.

                       

Salary Range:  Equivalent GS-10 ($52,252 - $67,931) per year, depending on qualifications

Position Location:  The position location is Tampa, Florida; however, consideration may be given to offsite locations within the Gulf of Mexico region.
